Day in the life

A day with.. Camilla Hay, Senior Digital Account Executive

So, Camilla  how long have you been at TKF and what team do you work in?

It’ll be 2 years in November, which has gone so quickly! I work on the Digital Team.

Congratulations on your promotion earlier this year! What is your new role and how are you finding it?

Thank you! My new role is Senior Digital Account Executive. I’m really enjoying it, it can be hard work at times, but the more responsibility I have, the more satisfying it feels to see a campaign come into fruition and do well. It’s also really nice to be able to build more of a rapport with our clients since becoming more involved.

Tell us about your typical workday as a Senior Digital Account Executive?

That’s a hard one as no one day is the same, it also really depends on whether I’m in the office or not!

Let’s imagine I am in the office; I like to arrive a little early so that I can settle in and have my coffee before any client comms begin. During this time, I usually take the opportunity to catch up with my team members both about work and not.

I tend to have several clients calls a day which usually involve going through our dashboards to look at results and any optimisations worth making to improve results. I like to spend a little bit of time looking through the dash ahead of the calls to ensuring it all looks good. For some campaigns we send email updates instead of having a call, so part of my day usually involves writing these reports. I often have some optimisations to action on the back of this reporting, be it creating some new ads, or carrying out some audience analysis.

We are constantly being briefed on exciting new campaigns which involve lots of discussion internally and with the client during the planning process to ensure we’re getting the most out of our client budget. Our daily tasks really do vary depending on what stage of the planning process we’re at with our campaigns and that keeps it dynamic.

I work on a team with Naomi (my Account Manager) and Jess (my Exec) and we work very collaboratively so we also often chat at the beginning of each day to decide how to allocate our client tasks.

When I’m in the office I always aim to get out for some fresh air with my colleagues on lunch which is also a nice opportunity to catch up with those who I don’t work with on a day-to-day basis. If it’s a Thursday we’ll often catch up over a drink after work which is really lovely too!

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

I’m really proud of having worked on the WaterAid The Girl Who Built a Rocket campaign. We were all really passionate about this one and it felt really special to work on it. We went on to win several awards for this campaign and attending the awards nights together also felt great!

What’s one of you biggest tips for hybrid working?

Utilise instant messaging (we use Microsoft Teams) as much as you can! I started working at TKF in a fully remote environment (November 2020) and I didn’t actually meet my colleagues until May 2021! However, by the time I did meet them I already knew them quite well as we are just constantly chatting over Teams. It’s amazing how much collaboration can take place in a virtual environment. But, I would also say that this does not replicate being actually in the office, so if you have the opportunity to go into the office, and also to socialise with your colleagues, take it!

What is your go to drink on a sunny afternoon in the pub?

This is a tough one, if it’s with work I often go for a lager top but if I’m feeling fancy then maybe an Aperol (especially if the sun is shining) or a G&T (if it’s the Cross Keys, then definitely a G&T!)
